The Lock and Key Library - Classic Mystery and Detective Stories: Old Time English by Dickens, Bulwer-Lytton, De Quincey, Maturin, Sterne, Thackeray
Under none of the accredited ghostly circumstances, and environed by none of the conventional ghostly surroundings, did I first make acquaintance with the house which is the subject of this Christmas piece.

It must have been a little after three o'clock in the afternoon that it happened—the afternoon of June 3rd, 1916. It seems incredible that all that I have passed through—all those weird and terrifying experiences—should have been encompassed within so short a span as three brief months.

I'm an eclectic reader with tastes ranging from business, marketing and the Internet to Colonial American history, 1920s history and maritime history. For fun I love big, fat blockbuster novels and mysteries with a humorous twist.

I read and like a lot of different kinds of books. I'm a big fan of SF and related genres. I love Jane Austen. Among my all-time favorite authors is Nevil Shute but Dan Jenkins runs him a close race, as does Michael Shaara (but not Shaara's son, Jeff). More favorites: Philip K. Dick, Robert A. Heinlein, William Gibson (Pattern Recognition is a truly wonderful book and you don't need to know or care about SF to find it fascinating.), Robertson Davies, Donald Hamilton, John D. MacDonald, Leo Tolstoy, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, Harper Lee, J. G. Ballard, Terry Bisson, Brian Moore, Farley Mowat, Joe Haldeman, Ian Frazier, Martin Amis, John M. Ford, James Ellroy, Joan Didion, John Gregory Dunne, Thomas M. Disch, Gustav Hasford, Michael Herr, Georgette Heyer (but not so much the mysteries), L. Rust Hills, Ernie Kovacs, Mell Lazarus. And lots more.

I'm a teacher of middle school students for whom reading is torture. Bookglutton appears to be an promising tool for enticing these "Digital Natives" to read. Eventually, I hope Bookglutton adds some Adolescent Fiction.

There are a great many written works we find ourselves referencing without ever having read a page. When we create the time to experience these collections of thoughts and words, we become frustrated when we can find no one else with whom to discuss meaning. We're a group devoted to exploring themes and sharing curiousities.
